The #Underawareness Movement

September 18, 2014

Many thanks to Depend for sponsoring today’s story and encouraging people to #dropyourpants for #underwareness.

While I'm fortunate enough to say I don't personally worry about bladder leakage, I know that many people do—especially women. We've all passed the display of Depend in a store aisle and smirked, but I think we all have also thought that one day we won't find it so funny when we are older and in need of some bladder leakage protection.

Worse yet, bladder leakage isn't just for the elderly. I was stunned when I researched the issue and discovered the following from the NIH:
  • Many women leak urine when they exercise, laugh hard, cough, or sneeze.
  • Often women leak urine when they are pregnant or after they have given birth.
  • Women who have stopped having their periods—menopause—often report bladder control problems.
  • Female athletes of all ages sometimes have urine leakage during strenuous sports activities.
Yep—we ladies of all ages can be victims of bladder leakage. Some of us likely already are. How embarrassing!

What is really cool about Depend is they aren't just cashing in on a need with their product—they actually want to do something about the problem: The #Underawareness movement.

Depend will donate $1, up to $3 million, over the next three years to charities that advance the research, education and awareness of bladder leakage for:
  • Every pant drop, photo and video shared Using #Underwareness and #DropYourPants; and
  • Every personal video made about what Underwareness means to you that is uploaded to YouTube and tagged #Underwareness and #DropYourPants"
I can certainly appreciate the sense of humor here. If you experience bladder leakage or know someone who does, know you're not alone! Participate in the fun and join the #underawareness movement - hopefully one day research can eliminate the problem of incontinence.

In the meantime, Depend has your back—Claim your free sample today by visiting the Depend landing page and clicking on the "Get a Sample" button located at the top right-hand side of the screen. Then, select which sample you would like to receive and wait for them to arrive!

Are you going to #DropYourPants now?
