Waitress

What: Waitress, the Broadway musical based on the 2007 film of the same name.
When: January 2018
Where: Hippodrome Theatre, Baltimore, MD
Thoughts: I'd never seen the movie Waitress, and honestly, this show was never one I was dying to see. But, I'd heard enough amazing things about it that I decided to take advantage while it was in town. I'm glad I did. The beginning and ending scenes were a bit slow, but I enjoyed it as a whole. Given the subject matter (for those of you unfamiliar with the storyline, domestic abuse is a major theme), I wasn't expecting the show to be a comedy, but I was laughing constantly as were women of all ages in the theatre (I had 30 somethings sitting to my left and 70 somethings sitting to my right...I can't tell who had more fun!) The score was composed by Sara Bareilles (her Broadway debut), and you can definitely tell! My personal favorite part of the show was the supporting cast, though — characters Dawn and Ogie had some of the best moments in my opinion.
Overall it was a fun night and had me curious enough to watch the film a few days later!
